After its 38-0 shutout win over then-No. 13 Northwestern, Michigan has surged in both the AP and Coaches polls this week. The Wolverines jumped six spots from No. 18 to No. 12 in the AP and seven spots from No. 21 to No. 14 in the Coaches. This is the highest Michigan has been ranked in the polls since the week after the Maize and Blue beat Notre Dame, 41-30, early in the 2013 season.
With Michigan's move in the polls, the Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans (AP No. 7/Coaches No. 4) will clash as top-15 teams this next weekend for the first time since 2003 -- when No. 11 Michigan upended No. 9 Michigan State, 27-20, in East Lansing. This is the biggest match-up on paper between the two in-state rivals in over a decade.
It's one of many reasons why College GameDay is coming to Ann Arbor on Saturday.
