Who: Michigan (21-14-0) vs Michigan State (17-15-2)
Where: Joe Louis Arena
When: Friday, March 20th. 8:00pm
It hasn't even been a week since these teams last met, with each team spoiling the other's Senior Night and opportunity to win the Big Ten regular season title, but the two storied rivals faceoff again in the semifinal game with even higher stakes and seasons on the line.
The two styles of play between these teams couldn't be more different.
The Wolverines are a high-flying transition team, who don't always take care of their defensive end when they sell out for offense. Goaltending and special teams alternates between great and awful. They're led by a terrific group of forwards headlined by Dylan Larkin, Andrew Copp and Hobey Baker finalist Zach Hyman.
The Spartans are conservative. They like to play slow, block shots and lean on their goalie to win the game. They'll clog the neutral zone to create turnovers, and while the Michigan State offense isn't as potent as the Wolverines' they are opportunistic and play well with the lead. The Spartans are led by Wolverine slayer Matt Berry and Hobey Baker snub Jake Hildebrand.
