After a long wait, JT Compher has been named the next captain of the Michigan Wolverines as expected.
Compher has been a sure bet to wear the C since his freshman year and stepped in right away as a leader both on and off the ice, earning the rare honor at Michigan of alternate captain as a sophomore last season. With Copp departing Compher will get the C a year early.
In his press release from MGoBlue, Red Berenson noted Compher's accolades off the ice as well as on it why Compher as captain was an easy choice. "I think JT brings that as a student, as a person, as a good teammate, as a player and as a leader on the ice as well as off the ice. And that's what we're looking for. I think that's what we've got."
Alternates will be senior forwards Boo Nieves and Justin Selman.
"It's an honor to be considered by the coaching staff and your teammates for a leadership position," Noted Compher. "To wear a letter on a team with such tradition, I think all three of us are excited about the role.
