Take a moment with Maize n Brew to mourn the passing of Hammer & Rails contributor Andy Zimmerman. He tragically took his own life last weekend, and his death has stunned all of us.
One of the great things about SB Nation and its numerous communities is that we are just that...a community. What affects one can, and will, affect us all. I can honestly say that the Purdue fans at H&R are some of the best people I have "met", and my heart goes out to them and, most importantly, to Andy's family.
If you or someone you know may be, or is, suffering from depression or has thoughts of suicide, there is a number you can call: 1-800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Please get help. Talking to someone can make all the difference in the world. You know what? I'll start. Although I have never sought treatment, there's no doubt I live with depression, and I should probably seek help. Some days are better than others. I feel like a reasonably well-adjusted individual, yet I have tremendous amounts of self doubt and sometimes feel forgotten and unheard. Suicidal thoughts at times? Yes; mostly, but not totally, in the past. I know I'm not alone. If you have similar thoughts, feelings, or experiences, know that you are not alone.
When it comes right down to it, there really aren't any sufficient words to be said other than "I am here", "We are here", and "I love you." In this case, we at Maize n Brew will express all of those sentiments by shouting loudly and proudly, "Boiler Up!" for Andy and his family in all of its incarnations.
Rest in peace.
