Tim Drevno Updates De'Veon Smith's Health Status for Maryland Game
De'Veon Smith injured his ankle during his 125-yard performance against BYU last weekend, so there have been questions about whether Smith would compete against Maryland this Saturday. One day after running back Derrick Green said that Smith was practicing this week, offensive coordinator Tim Drevno confirmed on Wednesday that Smith has been practicing and said that he "really feels good" about Smith playing against the Terrapins, according to the Detroit Free Press' Mark Snyder.
It's nice to see that Smith is practicing, but there's no need to rush Smith's return this week. Michigan should be able to run the ball effectively with Ty Isaac, Drake Johnson, and Derrick Green against a so-so Maryland run defense. The goal should be to make sure that Smith is 100 percent for Northwestern and Michigan State.
