About Last Week

The Wolverines were blown out in a humiliating sweep at Penn State and all of a sudden every team in the Big Ten besides MSU looks better than Michigan. It’s week two of the Big Ten season and they’re already fighting to not fall behind.

About Wisconsin

Tony Granato has put together an elite coaching staff that features his brother Don Granato who joined the program from the USNTDP program and the former Ohio State head coach Mark Osiecki. The work that these three have done has already started to pay off as the Badgers have reached seven wins and look much better than they did a year ago.

Scoring hasn’t been a problem for the Badgers. Grant Besse leads the team in scoring with a 7-10—17 line while freshman Luke Kunin and Trent Frederic look like future stars.

Defensive struggles have kept the young Badgers from taking the next step. Wisconsin ranks 51st in goals allowed and their goaltenders haven’t been great. Matt Jurusik returned after playing in 33 games a year ago but he has posted an .852 SV%; freshman Jack Berry has appeared in 9 games this season and has posted an .895 SV%.

About Michigan

It’s week two of the Big Ten season and Michigan is already slamming the panic button after being annihilated at Penn State a week ago. No one on this team can create offense besides Alex Kile and Will Lockwood, they can’t exit the defensive zone and the forwards can’t sustain possession.

This team needs to figure it out right now.
