Dylan McCaffrey (Littleton, CO) is the best quarterback prospect in the 2017 class.
That's what the 247Sports Composite rankings claim, at least.
The 247Sports Composite rankings were updated on Monday, and McCaffrey rose 20 spots from #38 to #18 overall, making him the highest-rated signal caller in 2017. McCaffrey jumped Clemson commit and pro-style quarterback Hunter Johnson, who sits at #26. The only other top-50 quarterback is Texas A&M commit Tate Martell (#29).
The move also gave McCaffrey his fifth star. If he can hold onto it for the rest of the 2017 cycle, he will become Michigan's fourth five-star commit since Ryan Mallett came to Ann Arbor in 2007, joining the likes of Rashan Gary, Jabrill Peppers, and Derrick Green.
McCaffrey committed to the Wolverines just last week. The competition for his services was thought to be Stanford because, yes, he is the younger brother of Stanford running back and Heisman Trophy runner-up Christian McCaffrey. However, the Cardinal opted to pursue other targets instead and didn't offer their star RB's sibling.
Thus, Michigan has a commitment from the country's best quarterback.
Here is Nick Bodanyi's scouting report of McCaffrey and what he brings to the table.
