Matt Dotson (6-5, 235) is a four-star tight end out of Moeller, Ohio. Dotson had every reason to see his stock skyrocket after a tremendous performance at The Opening regional in Columbus last week. Rightfully so, Dotson was invited to The Opening finals in Portland this July.
Dotson visited Michigan recently, and talked to MnB about his overall experience during his recruitment.
"My experience has been great and I have enjoyed every bit of it," he said. "It felt amazing being invited to The Opening."
Dotson said that he and Michigan talk every day. Relationships with coaches typically prove most vital to recruits during the process, and Michigan has that in their favor with Dotson.
"(Getting recruited by Michigan) has been great so far," he said. "I'm really developing a relationship with Jay Harbaugh."
Dotson said that there are two coaches he has the best relationships with right now, Jay Harbaugh from Michigan and Jim Bollman from Michigan State, the two schools that seem to be after him the hardest lately.
A lot of things stand out about Michigan to recruits, but for tight ends it's typically pretty simple.
"Their use of tight ends," Dotson said when asked what stands out. "(Michigan) is in my top three."
While, Dotson has a tremendous relationship with Jay Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh is beginning to trump (no pun intended) the other head coaches in the race for Dotson.
"We talk every day," he said. "It's either Jim or Jay (who talk to me.)"
Dotson also named Harbaugh his favorite head coach.
"(Jim Harbaugh) is at the top of all the other head coaches," he said. "He is just a really funny guy and I enjoy being around him."
Dotson let me know that he is planning to visit Michigan in June for a second time. He will announce his commitment at The Opening finals in early July.
