Mason Cole and Erik Magnuson have been placed on the 2016 Outland Trophy watch list. The award is given to the nation’s best interior lineman on the offensive or defensive side of the ball.
Cole, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound left tackle, will be switching to center for the 2016 season after the Maize and Blue lost Graham Glasgow to graduation. Glasgow was drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. Cole was named All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2015 and has started in all games of his college career. The junior was the first-ever Michigan true freshman to start the season opener on the offensive line.
Magnuson, a senior, showed leadership during his junior season, which he locked down the right tackle position. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound offensive tackle would probably fit somewhere in the top-10 among seniors at his position.
The Final 4 for the award will be released on November 17, then three finalists will be announced on November 22. Finally, the winner will be revealed December 8.
