Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh knows the quarterback that will start for the Wolverines on Saturday against Hawaii. The public will have to wait.

"Yeah, we know who our starting quarterback is, yes," Harbaugh said Monday at his weekly news conference. "I'll say who our starting quarterback is before Saturday."

Harbaugh did not mention the names of the quarterbacks, but the starting job has been cut down to Wilton Speight, John O’Korn and Shane Morris. The quarterbacks have been informed of their role, but no other member of the team knows who will start.

"It's been very good, really, from day one. The competition at the quarterback position has been very good," Harbaugh said. "It's been improving, as well, daily, weekly. All the quarterbacks are playing at a very high level.

“The competition at the quarterback position has been very good. It’s been improving, as well, daily, weekly. All the quarterbacks are playing at a very high level.”

Last season, Jake Rudock separated himself from Speight and Morris early in camp. However, the trio of Speight, O’Korn and Morris have taken the quarterback battle down to the wire this time around.

Michigan captain and tight end Jake Butt had good things to say regarding Speight.

“To see him come into his own a little bit, it’s special,” Butt said.

The captains, Chris Wormley and Butt, were not told who will be under center for the Wolverines.

Michigan will kick off the 2016 season on September 3rd against Hawaii. The game is slated for noon and will be on ESPN.
