“When I received the Michigan offer I was surprised,” Mincy Jr. said. “I was filled with joy and adrenaline. It was really like an act of God to be honest.”
His teammate, Kayvon Thibodeaux, also picked up an offer from the Wolverines. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound weak-side defensive end is ranked as the No. 1 athlete in the 2019 class, according to 247Sports.
"I could start off saying he's a 4.0 student," Dorsey football coach Charles Mincy, the father of Mincy Jr., said about Thibodeaux to 247Sports. "That says a lot when you add the other things with it.
"He's a basketball player. He's 6-5 about 230 or 235 pounds. He's just a disruptor that's kind of unnatural. He's 15 years old and looks like he's a college player already. He's a very hard worker in the weight room, very vocal on the field. He's just really dominant."
Mincy Jr. plays running back on the offensive end and cornerback on the defense. He was called up to varsity during his freshman year. Through seven games last season, he carried the ball 33 times for 360 yards and three touchdowns, which is an average of 10.9 yards per carry and 51.4 yards per game. On defense, Mincy Jr. recovered a fumble.
The running back has offers to Michigan and Nevada.
“The UCLA coach hit my coach up awhile back and I spoke to him,” Mincy Jr. said. “He told me that they were close to offering me and all I had to do was follow him on twitter, but I haven’t heard from him since.”
