The football recruiting trail has run a bit dry since the season started, but Michigan just landed another top player in the 2018 class in the form of 4-star tight end Mustapha Muhammad.

Muhammad is the fifth ranked tight end and the 109th overall player in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings for the 2018 class. Texas, Clemson, UCLA and LSU were also in the running.

The 6-foot-4, 235 pound tight end is an all around good player. He isn’t great at one thing, but he is a good at just about everything — blocking, receiving and route running. In fact, he was running routes that receivers would normally run in some of his junior year tape.

He also has pretty good speed for his size and can make defenders miss tackles with ease. Overall, from looking at the tape, this is a great addition for Jim Harbaugh and company.

Muhammad is the 15th player to commit to Michigan’s 2018 class and is the second-highest rated player right behind OG Emil Ekiyor, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He is also the second tight end to commit to the Wolverines’ 2018 class, as they already drew a commitment from 3-star tight end Luke Schoonmaker back in July.
