Earlier this morning, BTN.com’s Tom Dienhart released his Big Ten all freshman team for the 2017 season.
One Wolverines made it on his list, and that was Donovan Peoples-Jones as a punt returner.
Dienhart also selected a few Wolverines to his honorable mentions list, including Aubrey Solomon, Cesar Ruiz, Ambry Thomas, Brandon Peters and Quinn Nordin.
Personally, my freshman of the year is Donovan Peoples-Jones. Without him, the receiving group would have been a huge problem this year. Tarik Black only played in three games after breaking a bone in his foot during the Air Force game; Kekoa Crawford and Eddie McDoom had their fair share of struggles this season; and Grant Perry was only utilized so much out of the slot. With Nico Collins also banged up and Oliver Martin not seeing the field, Peoples-Jones was the one needed to step up, and he did in several games as both a receiver and a punt returner.
Aubrey Solomon comes in a close second place for me. The defensive line didn’t need a whole lot of help this season from the freshmen but Solomon was one of the few who saw consistent playing time, and he played extremely well in relief of Bryan Mone. Solomon actually finished the regular season with more tackles (17) and sacks (2.0) than Mone (10 tackles, 1.0 sack).
Your turn.
