The Wolverines are swept in Madison

The series Michigan played in Madison this weekend featured some of the best hockey that we’ve seen from the Wolverines this season. They actually outshot a quality opponent and by a wide margin! They still lost.

The game started with Luke Kunin ringing the puck off the back wall on a dump-in. Matt Ustaski threw the puck towards the goal and it hit Zach Nagelvoort, bounced out in front and ended up on stick of Trent Frederic. The sequence took eight seconds from the opening puck drop and it was 1-0.

James Sanchez answered at the :43 second mark of the first period and the Wolverines got a second goal from Cutler Martin, but Frederic got the Badgers back in the game forcing a turnover in the neutral zone and scoring shorthanded.

The teams went back and forth trading goals. Joe Cecconi answered an Aidan Cavallini goal and Adam Winborg answered a Jake Linhart goal but they couldn’t keep up with their defensive mistakes. Peter Tischke broke the tie for good a few minutes after the Winborg goal and Cavallini netted his second of the night on the empty netter to seal it.

Up next the Wolverines head to Columbus to face Ohio State.
