A 20-point win after arriving to the arena (and city) late. An overtime victory over the top seed. Revenge against the conference’s hottest team. Three great wins over three amazing days have put the Michigan Wolverines in just their third Big Ten Tournament Championship Game. No one would fault them if they showed up a little tired on Sunday, but that does not seem like the character of this team.
Michigan faces the second-seeded Wisconsin Badgers in the finals, a team with whom they split during the regular season. At 6-6 in conference play with a month left to go, Michigan began their crucial run to end the season with a big win over the No. 11 Badgers, which helped propel them off the NCAA Tournament bubble and into their current hot streak. Both matchups between the two squads were tight, and Sunday’s affair projects to be no different.
Wisconsin stumbled badly down the stretch, losing five of their last six games but still tying for second in the league standings. Victories over Indiana and Northwestern in Washington, D.C. have earned them their third title game appearance in the last five seasons. The task will be tough for the Wolverines, but they already proved they can knock off the Badgers and will need to do so again to complete their fairy-tale weekend.
