Things always move fast during conference tournaments, but this will definitely be a week to remember for the Michigan Wolverines, regardless of what happens next. Even though a terrifying plane accident led to a delayed arrival on Thursday morning, Michigan looked ready for business when they tipped off against Illinois, minus their attire. But even in their practice jerseys, the Wolverines were ready to go and took down the Illinois in their second round matchup.
Michigan’s reward is a date with Purdue less than 24 hours after their previous game started. A win over the Boilermakers at the end of February essentially punched their ticket into the NCAA Tournament, but adding another victory against the conference champions would go a long way for their potential seeding.
Beating the Big Ten’s top team for a second time — and this time on a neutral floor — is a tall task, but Michigan showed that they can hang with Purdue’s big men inside, and the Wolverines are always a threat to shoot the lights out from behind the arc. The adrenaline will be worn off and fatigue may set in, but Michigan should be able to make it a game. After all, last year’s 1 vs. 8 matchup worked out pretty well for the maize and blue.
