Michigan received its first commitment of the 2019 class with the verbal pledge of four-star linebacker Charles Thomas.

The Fairburn, Georgia native, who attends IMG Academy in Florida, tweeted his commitment Friday evening after a successful visit to Ann Arbor.

The six-foot, 222-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 4 inside linebacker in the 2019 class and No. 196 player overall, according to 247Sports.

Along with the Wolverines, Thomas had scholarship offers to West Virginia, Clemson, Georgia Southern, Maryland North Carolina, Tennessee, Toledo and Tulane.

Thomas marks another steal from the state of Georgia — a state Jim Harbaugh has recruited hard in the past two cycles. Harbaugh grabbed five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon in the 2017 class along with 2018 four-star corner back Myles Sims and four-star linebacker Otis Reese.

Scouting Report:

Thomas is a missile ready to explode at any given moment. He plays with great leverage and shoots through gaps at an elite level to blow up plays in the backfield. At 222 pounds, he already has elite size, but is faster than any other player on the field. Thomas will most likely redshirt when he gets on campus in 2019 due to depth at the position, but he could compete for a starting position in his second year. He is that good and that athletic.
