Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight received some good news on Monday morning, as he is featured on the Maxwell Award Watch List. The Maxwell Award goes to the best all around player in college football.

While this is welcomed news for Speight and the Wolverines, it is very preliminary for him to be on the list even, as Speight has not been named the starting quarterback for the 2017 season yet. While Speight has a year of starting experience for Michigan under his belt, he will face stiff competition from redshirt freshman Brandon Peters, as well as John O’Korn.
Last season Speight had a 61.6 completion percentage, threw for 2,538 yards, while putting up 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett made the list along with a hefty handful of other players.
