Wolverines defensive linemen Rashan Gary and Mo Hurst continue to receive preseason acclaim and accolades, being named to the Nagurski Trophy Watch List, which goes to the top defensive player in the country. 16 Big Ten players made the list.
Last season, Gary showed his potential as a freshman, after being the number one recruit in the nation. His first year brought him 27 tackles, 5 for a loss, and one sack. His statistics will only go up from here, as he truly is a freak of nature who has had another year to bulk up and improve his gameplay.
Hurst recorded 34 tackles, 11 1⁄2 for a loss, and 4 1⁄2 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Both players will be key contributors in both run stuffing and pass rushing for Michigan’s stout defense. Hurst and Gary didn’t receive the majority of snaps on defense last season, but that will now change, as they should be on the field nearly every down.
The award winner will be announced on December 4th with Georgia coach Kirby Smart being the keynote speaker.
