Harbaugh: Nico Collins, Oliver Martin in mix for playing time

Next man up

NCAA Football: Florida at Michigan Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh went appeared on the Jamie and Stoney Show on 97.1 The Ticket this morning, and shared some insight into the situation at wide receiver.

With a major injury to Tarik Black, the receiving depth chart will look different in the weeks to come. Harbaugh noted a couple freshman players will have an opportunity at playing time.

Kekoa Crawford, Nate Schoenle, Grant Perry. Donovan-Peoples Jones is going to play a bigger role. And other freshmen are going to have an opportunity... Nico (Collins) and Oliver (Martin). One of them or both will definitely be in the mix,” Harbaugh said.

Collins is a four-star recruit and Alabama native who was the No. 23 receiver in the class of 2017. 6-foot-5 and fast, Collins may create a lot of problems for smaller cornerbacks. He picked Michigan over Alabama.

Martin was the No. 28 receiver in the class and was one of the biggest risers up recruiting boards last year.

It’s never good when a team loses a player because of an injury, but the good news for Michigan is they have a lot of options to step in and step up.
