Michigan rises to No. 7 in latest Coaches Poll, steady at No. 8 in AP

The Wolverines improved their position in one poll and maintained their position in the other

NCAA Football: Michigan at Purdue Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan Wolverines have been rewarded in the rankings for their impressive second half against Purdue on both sides of the ball. The new Coaches Poll was released shortly before 1 PM this afternoon, and Michigan came in at No. 7 - an improvement of one place over last week’s poll.

A little while later, the latest AP poll was released and Michigan stayed steady at No. 8 despite receiving more votes than last week. The Georgia Bulldogs jumped Michigan in the AP, whereas the Wolverines stayed in front of a rising Georgia in the Coaches Poll.

Other notable rankings and takeaways from the AP Poll:

  • Penn State remained in the No. 4 slot
  • Wisconsin fell one place to No. 10
  • Ohio State fell one place to No. 11
  • The B1G Conference still has the most teams ranked in the AP Top-10 with three

Author’s Note: An earlier version of this article mistakenly stated that the B1G Conference had three teams ranked in the AP Top-25. I meant to say that the B1G Conference has three teams ranked in the AP Top-10. The article has been updated to correct this error.
