The former Michigan quarterback will wait until the middle of the year to decide on his future.

It’s been a hot minute since we have heard anything on the front of former Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight and where he will be playing football next fall, but today we got our first piece of news about his future.

According to Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News, Speight felt rushed to decide where he wanted to transfer for his fifth year of eligibility, so he will take some time to make a decision and then enroll at a university in June.

With his graduation from Michigan last December, he would have had to make a quick decision on his future with the January enrollment period. Instead, he will now take some time off to gather this thoughts and make a decision that’s best for him.

The timing of this news is really coincidental. I actually asked a few of the writers here at Maize n Brew the other day when we think we would see news on Speight’s decision. Well, here it is! Funny how things happen like that sometimes.

Speight didn’t deserve a cruel ending to his Michigan career — breaking several vertebrae in his back and being carted away to never play again — but these things unfortunately do happen. We wish nothing but the best for Speight as he seeks out his grad transfer.
