After an impressive victory over the No. 8 Villanova Wildcats in Philadelphia on Wednesday, Michigan (3-0) moves on to the semifinals of the Hall of Fame Tip Off Tournament. They will face a winless George Washington (0-3) squad and will face either South Carolina or Providence in the Championship game or the Consolation game on Sunday. The games in this tournament will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Michigan will have the opportunity to keep its undefeated season alive against a poor George Washington team. George Washington’s last game came against the No. 5 Virginia Cavaliers. Virginia obviously won the matchup and did it in emphatic fashion, scoring 76 points while holding George Washington to just 57.
George Washington’s leading scorer is sophomore guard Terry Nolan Jr. who is averaging 13 points, five boards, and an assist per game so far this season. He is a force from behind the arc shooting 44 percent from three.
It will be a tough back-to-back for the Colonials as they face two top-25 teams, their only two scheduled games this season against currently ranked opponents.
Meanwhile, Michigan has two highly efficient scorers, Charles Matthews and Ignas Brazdeikis, who the Colonials will struggle to match up with. Both average more than 15 points per game in the first three contests and have seemed unstoppable early on this season.
Defensively, the Wolverines are currently ranked second overall in the country. They have only allowed 42.3 points per contest so far in the year. There is a high chance that those numbers will stay consistent as they are taller, longer, and stronger than the Colonials.
