Thursday Morning Brews: Turkey Day

Gobble, gobble y’all

Happy Thanksgiving, folks. Welcome to Morning Brews. I suspect most people are traveling or celebrating the holiday today, so this edition of the Brews is going to be short, sweet, and to the point. To that end, there’s no hidden song reference today. We’ll start that back up next week.

Let’s get to it:

Michigan volleyball stretched their win streak to two matches last night with a 3-0 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats. Unlike the Wolverines’ other recent games, Michigan cruised through this one; comfortably taking each set. The win moves the team to 21-9 (10-9) on the season. The team is back in action this Saturday against MSU, which will be their regular season finale.

Beginning tomorrow, Michigan hockey has a critical early season series against the Wisconsin Badgers. Thus far, Mel Pearson’s squad has split two weekend series against highly-ranked conference opponents, but that has left the Wolverines in third place in the conference standings. When the 5-7 Badgers come to town, Michigan has a solid opportunity for a weekend sweep and to create some separation between the top and middle of the conference table. Check out the preview above for more on the matchup.

It’s getting to that time of the year again, and thankfully I’ve only read like two “Harbaugh to the NFL” stories in the past month. But when it comes to coaching moves that may actually happen, much has been made in the past week about USC and James Franklin. Of course, Franklin was on the hot seat after the 49-10 whooping the Nittany Lions took at the Big House in 2016. But as you all know, Penn State recovered, nearly won the Rose Bowl, and have been a solid team since (this year’s 42-7 dismantling notwithstanding). So is Franklin going to USC? The article above from the SB Nation mothership is skeptical, but give it a read and decide for yourself.
