John O’Korn to attend Detroit Lions rookie camp

Michigan quarterback John O’Korn wasn’t drafted by an NFL team, he wasn’t one of the undrafted free agents signed either, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t receive any interest whatsoever.

The Detroit Lions have invited O’Korn to their rookie camp next week. The camp is three days long and the players attending will be a mix of rookie draft picks, undrafted free agents, and unsigned free agents.

O’Korn will be attending the rookie camp on a tryout basis. While it’s a nice development for O’Korn that nobody can ever take away from him, a tryout of this kind is commonplace for rookie camp. NFL teams need bodies throwing passes, a rookie camp could never transpire if there weren’t a good dose of unsigned rookies trying out.

The good news for O’Korn is he will be getting plenty of reps throughout the three days. The bad news is it’s going to take a near perfect performance from O’Korn for the Lions to be interested in signing him. The probability of making the team isn’t in his favor, or in the favor of any tryout player, the odds are stacked against them.

O’Korn became the starting quarterback for Michigan in 2017 after Wilton Speight went down with an injury in late September, and was later benched for Brandon Peters until Peters injured himself versus Wisconsin. O’Korn then played against Ohio State to close out the regular season.

In 2017, O’Korn passed for 973 yards, 2 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, with a 53.5% completion percentage.

O’Korn stated last month that he believes he is the most NFL ready quarterback in the draft class, and now he has a shot to back that talk up.
