Happy Thursday, folks. Welcome to Morning Brews. This morning we have more good news on the John Beilein front. After the Ed Martin scandal broke, the Michigan faithful could be forgiven for wondering if the program could ever be that good again. With Beilein at the helm, the answer has been a resounding yes—and Beilein’s new extension is expected to be signed “soon” according to the first item in this morning’s Brews.
As usual, there is a song referenced in this morning’s article. There are at least two clues. They may be words, phrases, or photos, and may reference lyrics, the artist, or the album. If you think you know this morning’s song, fire away down in the comments.
Let’s get to it:
John Beilein likely to have rolling contract. Reports Orion Sang over at the Free Press. Sang says, “According to Beilein, the new deal will be a rolling contract that will essentially keep him as Michigan’s coach until he retires. The whole idea behind the contract, Beilein says, was to avoid having to reach consensus on an extension every few years or so. Now, he’ll remain the team’s coach in perpetuity, something that both sides want. And when Beilein’s ready to call it quits, he’ll be able to do so on his own terms.”
Chris Webber wants to reunite with teammates. Last week, we brought you the news that Chris Webber accepted a Jim Harbaugh invitation to be an honorary captain this fall. Nick Baumgardner is reporting some new comments Webber has made about Michigan. “‘There’s nothing I would want more than that,’ Webber said when asked about his thoughts of reuniting with former teammates in Ann Arbor. ‘I think that we’re on the right path for that. I think there has to be conversation, organically.’” For the full story, click the link above.
Starting guards locked in. At least they are in Aaron McMann’s mind. McMann says, “Together, Bredeson and Onwenu provide stability along the offensive line. We’ve heard a lot about Ruiz and his ceiling, and when you throw in the experience and maturity from guards, there’s reason for optimism along Michigan’s offensive line.” For the full take, check out the link above.
Cesar Ruiz man to beat at center. Speaking of the offensive line, McMann says Cesar Ruiz has the center spot wrapped up. “The road begins Sept. 1 against Notre Dame, when Ruiz is all but a lock to start at center on the road in South Bend. . . . With Ruiz, Michigan has found a stable center for the next three years. Sure, there will be plenty of growing pains and development. But his talent and ability should override all of that.”
WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE!?!?
