The Michigan basketball team kicked off its 10-day, three-game trip to Spain with a 82-72 win over Madrid on Monday afternoon.

The Generals are a group of local professional basketball players in Madrid.

While sophomore Jordan Poole led the team in scoring at halftime with 10 points, it was freshman Ignas Brazdeikis leading the team with 17 points.

U-M first lead didn’t come until the second quarter with 5:10 left at 29-28. However, they never fell behind again.

Redshirt sophomore Austin Davis had his best showing for U-M with 12 points. Charles Matthews found 13 points while Poole ended with 12 tallies. Brandon Johns Jr. had eight points in his first showing with the Wolverines.

Saddi Washington — who is currently in place of head coach John Beilein due to recent heart surgery — started Zavier Simpson, Poole, Matthews, Jon Teske and Isaiah Livers.

FIBA rules were in place, meaning the normal 3-point line is a bit longer along with other differences.

U-M will head to Barcelona on Tuesday where they will play two more games before heading home this weekend.
