Betting the Big Ten: Spreads, lines and picks for Week 8

Michigan’s trip to Happy Valley headlines the weekend’s slate of Big Ten games.

Our Big Ten picks are in a bit early this week due to a Friday game in Evanston (of which I get to witness live. Cool!), so let’s just get right into it.

Last week we came back down to earth and are now dead even on the season. We’re not here to make money (obviously), but at least you hypothetically have not lost any and are still having fun!

Last week: 2-4

Season overall: 31-31

Friday Night

No. 4 Ohio State (-27.5) at Northwestern, O/U: 50

This one will be ugly for the Wildcats. OSU should easily cover this, but I don’t think they can muster enough offensively to have the over hit.

Pick: Under 50

Saturday

No. 6 Wisconsin (-31) at Illinois, O/U: 51

Don’t expect the Badgers to struggle to put things away like Michigan did last week.

Pick: Wisconsin (-31)

Purdue at No. 23 Iowa (-17.5), O/U: 48.5

This one could go either way as far as the over/under goes. They say that losers bet the under. I guess I’m a loser.

Pick: Under 48.5

No. 20 Minnesota (-28.5) at Rutgers, O/U: 47.5

Minnesota does not have an impressive win this year and I’m skeptical that they are for real, but Rutgers is so woefully terrible that I do not see them having a problem covering here.

Pick: Minnesota (-28.5)

Indiana (-6) at Maryland, O/U: 59

This one might be the most ridiculously chaotic of the week, as Indiana games tend to be. That doesn’t mean it will be good, but it could be good, stupid fun.

Pick: Maryland (+6)

No. 16 Michigan at No. 7 Penn State (-9), O/U: 47

I will go on the record and say I do not think Michigan covers, but I also do not think they are going to get blown out and I think that this will be relatively low-scoring.

Pick: Under 47
