Bates just wrapped up his freshman year at Lincoln High School where he averaged 28.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He earned the Gatorade Michigan Men’s Basketball Player of the Year for his outstanding play throughout the season.
Other notable Michiganders to recently win the prestigious award include Isaiah Livers and Michigan State’s Cassius Winston.
The 6-foot-9, 200-pound Michigan target was called the “best freshman basketball player in the country” by USA Today High School Sports.
It is too early for most recruiting services to rank players in the class of 2022, but most predict he will be at the top of the list in the 5-star category.
A player of that caliber will certainly be garnering some attention from some of the top schools in the country. Bates holds offers from Michigan State and Florida State with Kentucky looming on Michigan’s top player.
There are currently two Crystal Ball predictions for Bates, one is for Michigan State, the other for Kentucky.
