Welcome to Week 5 of the 2019 college football season. It’s hard to believe we’re almost halfway through the year already and we have to stop taking these things for granted, but that’s hard to do when the team we’ve been following has been stressing everyone out.
Let’s jump into our picks for this week, shall we?
Season overall: 21-21
I am not a betting man. But if I were, here’s what we’re rolling with in Week 5.
Penn State (-6.5) at Maryland, O/U: 61.5
So, I forgot this was a Friday game, but for the record I did get my pick in on Twitter before the game. Hooray for me.
Big Ten picks out tomorrow morning but forgot there was a Friday game. We’re rolling with PSU covering the 6.5 tonight.

Pick: Penn State -6.5
Northwestern at No. 8 Wisconsin (-24.5), O/U: 46
Wisconsin has obliterated every single team it has faced this season. Northwestern just got blown out by Michigan State at home. Based on what we saw last weekend in Madison, this one is an easy pick.
Pick: Wisconsin (-24.5)
Middle Tennessee at No. 14 Iowa (-23.5), O/U: 51.5
Could the Hawkeyes get caught looking ahead to Michigan next weekend against Michigan’s first opponent of the season? Who knows, but think the Blue Raiders put up a fight in this one.
Pick: Middle Tennessee State (+23.5)
Rutgers at No. 20 Michigan (-27.5), O/U: 49
I don’t know if Michigan can cover this spread or not. I also don’t know if the offense is even capable of putting up this many points. I also also do not know if the defense can learn from last week and be way more disciplined. What I do know is that there will be some frustrations taken out this week and that things have a chance to get a little wacky. Screw it. Let’s take the over.
Pick: Over 49
Indiana at No. 25 Michigan State (-14), O/U: 44
Both of these teams are coming off of blowouts last week and I have a sneaky suspicion this could be the “oh goodness my eyes are burning yet somehow still entertaining” Big Ten Game of the Week. I like the Spartans at home, but the Hoosiers will give them a battle.
Pick: Indiana (+14)
Minnesota (-1.5) at Purdue, O/U: 54
The Gophers could very easily be 0-3, but sit at 3-0 on the season and are coming off of a bye week. Purdue has been up and down, but top to bottom I still believe Minnesota is a better team.
Pick: Minnesota (-1.5)
No. 5 Ohio State (-17) at Nebraska, O/U: 66
OSU really should blow the barn doors off of this football team, but they are going to be playing their first game in a hostile road environment this year. This is a big game for Scott Frost and the Huskers to show progress in their rebuild and think they will come to play and at least put some points on the board. It remains to be seen how they slow down Ohio State, though.
Pick: Over 66
You know the drill. Sound off with your picks in the comments below.
