Buzz growing for 2020 five-star Josh Christopher to join Michigan

It cannot be denied how good a job Juwan Howard has done on the recruiting trail in his first year as Michigan’s head coach. He already has one five-star in the 2020 class, and he very well could land another one by the time it’s all said and done.

That other potential five-star to join the class is Josh Christopher, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound guard from Lakewood, California. He has a final list that includes Michigan, Arizona State, UCLA and Missouri. While he has made no indications of committing anytime soon, it appears the Wolverines are the team to beat, according to Tracy Pierson of 247Sports’ UCLA website ($).

“For months, the elite shooting guard from Lakewood (Calif.) Mayfair has seemingly been leaning to either UCLA or Arizona State. A few sources have indicated recently, however, that Christopher now is just about certain to be going to Michigan,” Pierson wrote.

But honestly, this is a huge development. Michigan already has the No. 4 ranked class in 2020, so adding Christopher would be absolutely game-changing. The class already consists of five-star forward Isaiah Todd, four-star center Hunter Dickinson, four-star guard Zeb Jackson and four-star forward Terrance Williams.

With three-star forward Jace Howard, Juwan’s son, committing later this month, it is possible Michigan takes six players in 2020. As far as the numbers game goes, attrition would certainly be needed, but we will cross that bridge once we get there.

Current day, the Wolverines lack a go-to scorer to take over games. Last year, it was Iggy Brazdeikis. Before him, it was guys like Moe Wagner, Trey Burke and Nik Stauskas. Christopher would be that kind of guy for Michigan next season if he comes to Ann Arbor. He is that special of a player. He has the makings of a future star in the NBA.

As always, Maize n Brew will bring you the latest news as it develops in this recruitment.
