On this week’s Future Brew podcast, Von, Jon and Stephen discuss all six 2021 players who signed their letters of intent to play for Juwan Howard and the Michigan Wolverines. They went in depth on who they are most excited to see play next season.
Stephen: I think it’s gotta be Frankie Collins. I watched a lot of his game, I think it was against Bronny (James). I know Frankie Collins plays along Jaden Hardy, who is No. 4 in the 2021 class, and you could make an argument that Collins was player of the game. I think Hardy had 39 points, and I think Collins had 19, but man, on the defensive side of the game, Frankie Collins was just a force. The word that keeps coming to mind when I think of him is “enabler.” He enables a ton of talent around him with his court vision, his defense, he had the game-winning rebound. He has an insane vertical as well, so it’s not just he enables others because of a lack of play on his end. He can shoot, he’s a fine shooter, but he realizes his skillset and he elevates the play of everyone.
Von: From these six players, I think I’m most excited to see Moussa Diabate. Michigan really hasn’t had a center like him, man, I don’t know the last time they really have had a guy like him. Just a versatile guy, long arms, can rebound really well, has got a pretty nice shot. I think he’s got loads of potential given the fact Howard has helped develop bigs in the NBA, and I really like the trajectory of where his career could end up going, not only just in Ann Arbor but also in the NBA, I think he’s got potential there, too.
Jon: I kinda like Kobe Bufkin a lot. There’s a lot of good things from his game and I like the narrative of the Michigan kid doing really well, the lone in-state player. So if he’s successful, I think that’ll help a lot with Howard’s recruiting, too. I just like his game a lot and I’m looking forward to see how he does.
