WATCH: Michigan Hockey Highlights vs. Minnesota

Breaking down the series split against the Golden Gophers

The Michigan Wolverines really could’ve used a series sweep or at least a split to ensure they solidified a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines did just that, claiming the first game with a 5-2 victory before falling in the second game of the series 4-2.

With this result, the Wolverines finished the season 3rd in the Big Ten, separating themselves from Notre Dame, who finished 4th in the conference by a slim margin. Despite only splitting, Strauss Mann was excellent in net, providing some extremely athletic saves to keep Michigan in both games. Matty Beniers continues his impressive season, tacking on 4 points in Michigan’s 5-2 victory.

The Wolverines will look to the Big Ten conference tournament, where they’ll take on the #6 seeded Ohio State Buckeyes in South Bend. Getting at least to the semifinals would likely get them in a revenge scenario against the Golden Gophers.
