The Michigan Wolverines sealed the deal last week with former Kentucky defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale as a last-minute replacement for Maurice Linguist. Now, we know what it took for head coach Jim Harbaugh and the program to make the hire happen.
Clinkscale signed a three-year contract with Michigan that will pay him at least $600,000 per year, according to the findings from a FOIA request by MLive. A pay bump and title change could also come for him if this year’s pass defense ranks in the top 25 in the country. That would raise his salary to $700,000 and earn him the co-defensive coordinator title that Linguist carried before leaving for Buffalo.
The memorandum of understanding he signed on May 12 also states that his pay could raise with a new title in 2023 if the above benchmarks are not reached this season.
Class action lawsuit filed against University of Michigan
Following the findings of the WilmerHale investigation of former U-M doctor Robert Anderson, a class action lawsuit has been filed against the university in US District Court this week.
The suit, filed by U-M junior Josephine Graham, demands that the university acknowledge the survivors of Anderson’s abuse while putting policies in place to prevent sexual violence on campus.
“Everyone who was abused by Robert Anderson – including those who may not be ready to come forward – deserves an opportunity to hold U of M accountable and have their voice heard,” said Annika K. Martin, a partner with Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP and one of the lawyers representing the plaintiffs in this case. “It is critical that U of M not only acknowledge and recognize the survivors, but also ensure this abuse can never happen again. U of M has repeatedly failed to implement policies that put students first, and accordingly this complaint seeks relief through the court to ensure they will.”
Anderson is accused of molesting at least 800 men during his time as a doctor in the athletic department from 1966-2003. He passed away in 2008.
The Detroit News spoke with a U-M spokesperson after the suit was filed, which the university says lacks a basis for legal action to be taken.
“The University has offered its heartfelt apology for the abuse perpetrated by the late Robert Anderson. At the same time, we encourage members of the University community to remember that Anderson has not been employed by the University since 2003, which is the year in which most of the incoming freshmen in the Class of 2025 were born.”
