The Michigan Wolverines community is mourning this week with the news that Laurie Carr, the wife of ex-football coach Lloyd Carr, has passed away at the age of 70. The Carr family said that she was battling a long and arduous fight with cancer.
Laurie and Lloyd Carr were married in 1994 before he was elevated to head coach. She kept herself out of the spotlight during his 13 years at the helm of the football program but was always supportive and a model life partner.

“It’s hard to separate the two of them. That’s who they were — Lloyd and Laurie,” former Wolverine and 97.1 The Ticket host Jon Jansen said. “It wasn’t just Lloyd. You knew they were a team. When I think about Lloyd and Laurie, they were a great example to all of us what it meant to love, what it meant to sacrifice, what it meant to have a true partner in life. We saw that so much from Laurie throughout the course of coach’s coaching career, but when Lloyd stepped away from coaching, you saw it from him as well.”
Maize and Brew and the Michigan community share their condolences to the Carr family in this moment of loss and grieving.
Michigan Athletes goes all-digital for tickets starting this fall
U-M’s athletic department announced on Tuesday that it would begin to transition to mobile ticketing starting this fall. Here is the snippet from the announcement:
Event tickets will be accessible to purchasers through digital wallets on smartphone devices in all U-M sports for which tickets are sold. Print-at-home tickets also will be discontinued.
Mobile tickets will apply to all sports except football, where returning season ticket purchasers will maintain the option to receive tickets either printed or via mobile device.
Mobile ticketing platforms provide a number of advantages to traditional printed tickets, including contactless transactions, faster delivery of tickets, flexibility for ticket holders, improved safety and reduction of counterfeit scenarios, and efficiency at our venues.
Details on how mobile tickets will be distributed will be released sometime this summer. Recent announcements from the state of Michigan allow for outdoor venues to operate at full capacity starting June 1. Michigan says the door is open for them to host sold-out events this fall.
