With the season kicking off next weekend, the Michigan Wolverines formally announced their four captains for the 2021 season on Thursday:
None of the names come as too much of a surprise. On offense, Andrew Vastardis retains his captaincy. He has been in Ann Arbor for six seasons now and leads an offensive line with rising expectations. He is joined by Ronnie Bell, an absolute rock in the Michigan passing game and a clear leader over the past few years.
On defense, it is a couple more returning captains. Aidan Hutchinson is on his way to the NFL and should be in for a monster season on the edge. With him is Josh Ross, a key in the middle of the new defensive scheme and someone who Mike Macdonald will be looking to as an on-field mouthpiece.
Being named a captain is a big honor and a big responsibility. With many new coaches joining the staff and different schemes being put into place, it is imperative that these four players help usher in the new era.
