Three Words: Reactions to Michigan football’s win over Western Michigan

There’s some...optimism now?

NCAA Football: Western Michigan at Michigan Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan Wolverines moved to 1-0 on the season after a 47-14 drubbing of the Western Michigan Broncos on Saturday afternoon. Outside of some early hiccups, the performance was exactly the type fans were hoping to see to give them something to build on heading into the second week.

It was far from a perfect performance, but 47 points and 334 yards rushing after the staff and players said all week they wanted to be physical and get off to a fast start is encouraging. The new defense had some troubles early on, but once the pass rush got going, it was smooth sailing the rest of the way in coordinator Mike Macdonald’s debut.

Ronnie Bell’s injury status looms large following this one, as he hurt his knee in the second quarter on a punt return. That is the only thing seemingly giving people pause on making grand declarations after win No. 1.

We will see how Michigan fares in a night game next week against the Washington Huskies. Feel free to use the comments below to get your three-word takes in about the first win of the year.
