After undergoing a heart procedure this fall, Michigan Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard is set to officially return to his post on Saturday against Eastern Michigan. While Howard has been present on the bench for many of the games thus far, doctors gave him the green light to fully resume head coaching duties.

Athletic Director Warde Manuel provided the update on Friday:

In his absence, associate head coach Phil Martelli oversaw the team’s 5-5 start to the season. Martelli’s extensive experience has been an asset to Howard since taking his position and was a great benefit for the team after Howard’s operation this September.

While the health of Howard and his full return is the story here, there of course are ongoing reports of an incident last week with strength and conditioning coach Jon Sanderson. However, Manuel’s statement includes that “nothing was found to warrant disciplinary action for anyone involved,” seemingly closing the book on that story.

The Wolverines continue non-conference action against Eastern Michigan at 2:30 pm in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
