The Michigan Wolverines are set to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl — one of the two semifinals of this season’s College Football Playoff, and running back Blake Corum is pumped for it.

“This is the moment I was born for,” Corum told reporters in Indianapolis after the CFP bracket was revealed. “Being able to be the No. 1 team in the nation, first of all, play in the Rose Bowl, against a great Alabama team, SEC vs the Big Ten, does it get bigger than this? I don’t know.”

“I’m super excited. We’re going to prepare like no other. When it comes that time, we’ll be ready,” Corum continued. “I’m getting chills just thinking about it.”

As hated as Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide are, you can’t tell the story of college football over the last 15 seasons without mentioning Alabama. Corum knows this, but in an interview with The Athletic’s Austin Meek in Indy, he doesn’t appear to be lacking confidence.

“We are the top dog, that’s how we’re going to approach it,” Corum said. “We’re going to approach it like we’re the No. 1 team and they’re the No. 4 team. They’re a great team, we’re not going to go in there saying, ‘Oh, this is Alabama, a team that’s won and won and won.’ Nah, we’re that team. We’ve been winning and we deserve to be the No. 1 team, that’s how my mindset is.”

“The committee chose us to be the No. 1 team,” Corum said. “So I’m not going to act like we’re not. Bama is a great team, so I’m going to treat them like a great team, I’m super excited to play Alabama, it will be a good challenge, good match-up, but to answer your question, I’m going in like we’re the top dog.”

Earlier today, the Michigan Wolverines were ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll for the first time since 1998. They take on Alabama on New Year’s Day, with the game set to kick off at 5 p.m. EST on ESPN. The Wolverines began as 2.5-point favorites, but have already been bet down to just two.
