The Michigan Bubble: 2023 Weekly Check-in

Weekly Check-in of Where Things Stand

With a 2-0 week I decided to switch things up and instead make this a weekly check-in at how things look. These pieces will have Michigan's current resume, my conference list of teams and where they are likely to be placed, Michigan’s remaining schedule/Quad games, and then a few bubble games that will have a major impact on Michigan’s chances to make the Tournament for the week. Let’s get straight into the numbers.

Here’s the Resume:

Michigan’s Resume:

Quadrant 1

Quadrant 2

Quadrant 3

Quadrant 4

2-8

4-1

2-0

5-1

Nice boost in the NET numbers going from 83rd to 68th. Both the two Quad 2 wins and the way in which Michigan won was huge. OSU still has excellent numbers so a wire to wire victory went a long way for Michigan.

As always it rarely is about your own Resume and instead who you are stacking up against. Florida, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, Oklahoma St, and a few others had very good weeks. Listed are all the conferences expected to get multiple bids and then those teams listed categorically in relation to the NCAA Tournament:

Quick notes from last week to this. A ton of the, for lack of a better word, minor teams had a bad week. Liberty, College of Charleston, UNLV, and some others all took losses and that should help ease some bubble pressure for the end of the year. In the major conferences there were also some shake ups but this should be expected as teams try to make a run to the NCAA.

On to Michigan’s remaining games. Maryland continuing to gift Michigan with a Quad 1 home win would be nice, and Wisconsin will continue to hoover it seems up and down that NET 75 line:

It goes without saying, but another 2-0 week would be pretty crucial. The game against Nebraska is a must win game. They lose that one and well for all intents and purposes they aren’t getting a bubble spot. The Indiana one isn’t killer, but the win is very much needed.

Lastly, here are some games to monitor this week. I’m not including the weekend games as there are just too many at that point. I have the team to root for in bold:

Weekly Impact Bubble Games

Auburn @Tx A&M

BC @Va Tech

SDSU @Utah St

UNC @WF

UF @Bama

ASU @Stanford

Nevada @New Mex

OU @Baylor

USC @Oregon

As always, for reference on how Quad Wins and Losses work:

  • Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
  • Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
  • Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
  • Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353
