DraftKings odds for where Jim Harbaugh will be coaching in 2024 have shifted once again

Michigan was the top option, according to the oddsmaker, but is now running in second.

Now that the college football offseason is in full swing, mass changes are expected to take place around the sport. Nick Saban has officially retired from Alabama and has been replaced by Washington’s Kalen DeBoer, marking the first huge coaching move this year.

Will the Michigan Wolverines have a head coach vacancy as well? Rumors are starting to swirl even more about the future of Jim Harbaugh, but as John U. Bacon likes to say — “Nobody Knows Anything.”

The oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook have proven JUB’s saying to be true, as the odds have been shifting all over the place over the last five days. Just a couple days ago, the top betting odds for Harbaugh’s 2024 destination was “Not the Head Coach of an NFL Team” at -350 odds — indicating a return to Ann Arbor. Right behind at the time were the Los Angeles Chargers at +250.

But now the odds have shifted once again. The Chargers are now the top option at -150, with “Not the Head Coach of an NFL Team” right behind at +100.

The Chargers are a sexy NFL destination for any coach this offseason. The team has a franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert and some offensive weapons for him to throw the ball to. Their defense needs some serious work and they don’t have a ton of cap space to play with, but the foundation is there for someone to take over and succeed.

Harbaugh interviewed for the opening on Monday, marking the first meeting between him and an NFL franchise this offseason. It very well could be his last, as the next closest option according to the betting odds are the Las Vegas Raiders at +800. Thankfully, it appears they are going to hire interim head coach Antonio Pierce, so Harbaugh shouldn’t be too big of a threat for that job.

But Michigan is undoubtedly a great option as well. Coming off a national title, the Wolverines would be able to parlay Harbaugh’s return into success on the recruiting trail for the 2025 class and beyond. Even though they lost a ton to the NFL Draft this year, the foundation is still there for a really good team in 2024. Harbaugh also lives right next door to his parents and is universally loved within the community. You can’t really beat that.

All in all, Harbaugh will have his pick of the litter this winter. Hopefully Warde Manuel and Santa Ono are able to convince him to sign a massive contract extension to remain the head coach at Michigan.
