No. 1 Michigan (14-0) is set to take on the No. 2 Washington Huskies (14-0) on Monday night in the College Football National Championship.
Heading into the matchup Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy outlined a way in which head coach Jim Harbaugh’s motivating the team.
“He’s really into this team kind of replicating a pack of wolves. He’s got this little board that he created where it’s like the wolves going into the fight, the wolves celebrating the hunt and their food, and then the wolves walking away,” McCarthy said. “He’s going to find any creative way to relate the outside world to football. He does it in a beautiful and very wise way. I’d just say his message is we’re a pack of wolves and we are going to eat our last meal.”
Michigan running back Blake Corum also talked about Harbaugh comparing the Michigan team to a pack of wolves.
“Coach Harbaugh did say that. That’s what this team is doing. We’re ready to eat our last meal,” Corum said. “We’re all hungry. We’re not full at all. We’re starving. Last week’s game was cool. Last week’s game was fun and we can talk about that. But we have to stick to the task at hand right now and focus on the job that we have to finish. After that week can talk about the Rose Bowl, we can talk about the national championship. But right now we’re focused on practice, executing at a high level, paying attention to detail, watching as much film as we can, and make sure Monday we come out on top and make sure we make all our Michigan fans happy, Michigan alum, and Michigan happy.
We’ll see if Michigan devours its prey on Monday night. Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Michigan’s currently a 4.5-point favorite.
