Last Saturday night, Michigan lost to No. 2 UCLA Bruins 102-84. Although the Wolverines lost by such a wide margin, they did put together their best first half of the season. Against UCLA, Michigan went 12-for-16 from behind the 3-point line and scored 50 points. However, the Wolverines were outscored 52-34 in the second-half and allowed the Bruins to shoot 67 percent from the field.
Now, after traveling out West, Michigan returns home to take on a lesser foe, the Central Arkansas Bears.
The Bears have been struggling defensively all year. They have been outscored 740-612 on the season. And they are losing games by an average margin of 14.2 points. Central Arkansas has already faced a Big Ten opponent this year, the Wisconsin Badgers, and it was handily defeated, 79-47.
This is a game where the Wolverines can work on the tiny things. Run some offense and defense that can be useful once conference play comes around. Give some players who haven’t seen that much action on the year some court time. It is certainly fine to make some mistakes in this type of contest because then head coach John Beilein and company can fix it in practice.
Michigan will look to try replicate its first-half shooting performance that they had against UCLA and try to shoot like that for the entire 40 minutes in this game.
The Wolverines will look for Zak Irvin, who is averaging a team best 14 points per game, to lead them to get back on track.
Today’s pre-game question is:
Who needs to step up for the Wolverines come Big Ten play?
