Michigan vs. Northwood: How to Watch and Game Thread

Basketball is (kind of) back!

NCAA Basketball: Final Four Championship Game-Michigan vs Villanova Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Though the football season is just entering the final stretch, it is already time for college hoops to start back up.

Michigan begins the season ranked 19th after a surprise NCAA Championship run last season. The losses of Mo Wagner, Duncan Robinson, and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman will be felt, but their absence leaves an opportunity for some younger players to take a step forward.

Michigan will again start its season with an exhibition matchup, facing Northwood University, which is apparently a Division II school up in Midland. The Timberwolves finished 11-17 last season and placed 10th in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Their two notable matchups last season were losses to Nebraska and Central Michigan, both on the road.

Preseason tune-ups are not about the results; Michigan hammered Northwood’s conference-mate Grand Valley State last season. Rather, the purpose is to ramp up to a schedule that features a Title Game rematch in less than two weeks. After mixed results overseas this summer, the Wolverines definitely have some question marks right now. Friday night’s affair offers an opportunity to provide some answers.
