The Michigan football team is making a lot of noise, but it is time for college hoops to start up again and for the reigning National Championship Runners-Up to kick off the season.
As the No. 19 team in the country, this Michigan Wolverines squad is going to play with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. After winning their second straight Big Ten Tournament, making a National Championship appearance and bringing in a top-10 recruiting class, this team expected to be ranked much higher than where it is presently.
Michigan will open up its first game of the season against the Norfolk State Spartans of the MEAC Conference. The Spartans are best known for their incredible 2012 NCAA Tournament upset where they knocked off Missouri, a No. 3 seed, in the first round.
Since then they haven’t had such luck as they have failed to make the NCAA Tournament in the past six seasons. Last year, the Spartans finished 14-19 overall after a nine-game losing streak to open the season. However, they finished with an 11-5 record in MEAC play. Their most notable games were two blowout losses against the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (a Final Four team last year) and Auburn.
Look for a scrappy battle from Norfolk State, but for the Wolverines to pull away and put down this inferior opponent.
