Welcome to another weekend boys and girls. Your Michigan Wolverines host the Western Michigan Broncos at 2 p.m. at Crisler Arena. Michigan enters the matchup undefeated while the Broncos look to avoid falling to .500 as they sit 5-4 at the moment.
Western is 2-2 on the road, but both losses have come to what we’d call in football, P5 opponents — Cincinnati and Ole Miss. They lost both of those games by 26 points each and today’s spread sits at Michigan -24.5.
Center Seth Dugan leads the way for the Broncos, averaging roughly 17 points and 10 boards per contest while shooting at a 57.7 percent clip from the field. The 7-foot senior will certainly be a test for Jon Teske while the guys on the perimeter worry about chasing around Josh Davis and Michael Flowers. They both average over 13 points per game on 34 and 42 percent from three respectively.
The Wolverines showed last week that they can win in grind outs and shoot outs. That versatility is something that should help them in March. Iggy has been as good as advertised while Jordan Poole begins to unload the way many expected him to going into the season with more touches. Look for Charles Matthews to use his athleticism as an advantage early and for the Wolverines to get back to lock down defense.
Ideally, the only thing in doubt at about 3 p.m. is whether the spread gets covered or not.
