The all-Big Ten second-teamer requested an NFL Draft evaluation earlier this month. He is set to lead at safety next fall with the graduation of senior Tyree Kinnel.
He joins guard Ben Bredeson and quarterback Shea Patterson as returnees for next fall. Juniors Rashan Gary and Devin Bush declared for the draft in the weeks following the loss to Ohio State.
A former three-star out of Hollywood, Fla., Metellus came to Michigan alongside Flanagan High teammates Bush and Devin Gil. He first started in the 2016 Orange Bowl on short notice once Jabrill Peppers exited in warmups.
This past season, he racked up 47 tackles with 3.5 for loss. He also snagged three interceptions, including one for a touchdown just before halftime against SMU.
Cornerbacks Lavert Hill and David Long have yet to announce their intentions, as well as tight end Zach Gentry. The deadline to declare for the draft is Jan. 14.
