NCAA Tournament Game Thread: Michigan (3) vs Montana (14)

This is where the fun begins.

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Wichita Practice Kelly Ross-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan basketball is back in action after 10+ days off. The last time we watched our beloved Wolverines in action, Beilein’s troops were bringing peace, freedom, justice and security to his new empire.

On the road to winning their second consecutive Big Ten Tournament title, Moritz Wagner, Zavier Simpson and company defeated the tournament’s 4, 1, and 3 seeds by an average of 13 points.

The good guys are currently riding a nine-game winning streak, but as they say, “twice the pride, double the fall.” Montana certainly provides an interesting first round test. The “Griz” have only lost twice this calendar year and carry a trio of juniors who all average double digits and can hurt the Wolverines in a number of ways.

Today’s Question:

Rust or Rest? I’m not one to deal in absolutes, but allow me to take the middle ground here. There will probably be a mix of both rust and rested legs for the Wolverines. Keep in mind that adjusting from a tournament that ended almost a week ago to a 4-5 day lay-off is an adjustment in itself.

That’s part of what makes the tournament so fun — it’s a completely unique event that puts teams in uncomfortable positions. It provides us with great moments that can light us up with joy or rip our hearts into a million pieces.

With that said, let’s hope tonight’s game turns out to be nothing more than a run-of-the-mill 3 vs 14 matchup that acts as a tune-up game for the Wolverines.

Go Blue.
