The 2017-18 Michigan Wolverines national-runner up men’s basketball team was honored on the field during the football home opener against Western Michigan, but we were able to catch up with Los Angeles Lakers forward and former Wolverine Moritz Wagner before the game.
Wagner was in town not only to be honored by the program with his former team, but also to kick off a basketball camp for 50 kids from kindergarten to fifth grade at the Ann Arbor YMCA. Here’s our full chat from the camp (complete with bouncing basketballs in the background).
Topics we hit on here:
- Heading out to L.A. and playing with LeBron James/Lonzo Ball
- Memories of his time at Michigan, including his huge career game at MSU last year and why he loved to be cursed out by Spartan fans
- His message for the football team that has struggled to win big games
- How important John Beilein is to him and his career
- More
A film crew from Germany is following him around for a documentary to be aired in his home country as he hopes to be an ambassador of the game and they were present for Saturday morning’s camp at the YMCA.
Editor’s note: Moe is 6’11”.
Really awesome to chat with @moritz_weasley this morning. Just a *bit* taller than me. Interview coming later on @MaizenBrew. pic.twitter.com/Y9qKuLR2af
