Michigan basketball slides out of top ten in latest AP poll

Michigan comes in one spot ahead of the rival Michigan State Spartans.

The Michigan Wolverines were ranked No. 4 and No. 5 in the country heading into the last couple of weeks, but a sobering stretch and two losses last week have dropped them to No. 14 in this week’s AP Poll.

Michigan dropped a 71-62 game on the road at Illinois last Wednesday night and lost to Oregon, who ranks No. 8 in this week’s poll, by a score of 71-70 in overtime on Saturday at Crisler Center. The come in one spot ahead of rival Michigan State, who sits at No. 15 in the polls.

The Big Ten leads all of college basketball with five teams ranked inside the top 25. Ohio State and Maryland represent the conference inside the top ten at No. 5 and No. 7, respectively, while Penn State entered the poll this week at No. 23.

Kansas is the fifth different team in the seven weeks of the poll to hold the top spot in the country. They join Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke, and Louisville as teams that have held No. 1 honors this season so far.
